My hope is that people will read the poems, they are stories of real people. The exhibit (and web site) is designed to tell many sides of the issue. This is something that is left out of most newspaper and magazine articles, the human cost of our failed health care system.Kira Carrillo Corser <xasauan@aol.com>

I am continually amazed at the brazenness of the educational establishment's advocacy of certain viewpoints. This exhibit is not about art, it is about public policy, and should be referred to as such. There is nothing wrong with taking a stand on a current issue, but to mask it as the only truth, or the only reasonable one, to a bunch of eighteen-year-olds is not an example of encouraging open debate and free expression. The message of this exhibit is clear: at CSUMB, debate on the health care issue is closed. Rather than presenting a one-sided piece of propaganda, why not try presenting CSUMB students with some balanced arguments? They would be intellectually richer for the experience, which is (I suppose) at least part of the mission of your institution.Sean Nelson <sfnelson@prontomail.com>

I am a licensed Practical Nurse. When I left my hospital employment of oncolgy unit after 15 years, my employer offered me my guaranteed health insurance. It would cost over $600 per mo. with maximum payment of $800 for a triple heart by-pass.After joining my husband in retirement and spending $50,000 to $60,000 for insurance and med. costs for 9 yrs., I am again back working on my sore feet all day for health ins. needs for at least 7 more years when I can recieve medicare. Is this our caring America?Jan <Lilfuzz@wetv.net>

Spine tingling, gut wrenching and painfully accurate. Powerful images in words and pictues. Elegantly presented and quite complete. Running the entire health care gamit ( insurance hikes, Pharmaceutical fraud and ripoffs), pullutions causing disease. Only one thing bothers me, as a healthcare professional poet and media artist, I know the whole medical system is doing more harm than good, that chemo seldom works and once admited to hospital people rot on useless therapy til their insurance runs out and then they die anyway. It's not a healthcare system it"s a disease care system, Loved the piece! You have something meaningful to say and it does make a difference....... runs out and then they dieCathy White <Iahu@aol.com>

I hope you take a glance at the hard work of senior Gwendoline Gotico. Her Service Learning project was to help Fran and Kira to put the Matriot on the web. Please check out her work, which went towards her graduation requirement. With the project now almost finished, she'll be able to join the rest of her classmates in CSU Monterey Bay's very first graduating class!
